Segmental Block Retaining Walls in Portland, OR
Segmental retaining wall (SRW) block is the workhorse of the retaining-wall world and the most popular choice across the Portland metro. Interlocking concrete units stack without mortar, flex slightly with the ground instead of cracking, and are engineered to work with geogrid reinforcement for tall walls. They come in a wide range of textures, colors, and face styles, so a structural wall can also look like a deliberate design feature.
The strength of a block wall comes from what you don't see: a compacted gravel base, a level leveling pad, clean gravel backfill with drain pipe, and geogrid soil reinforcement buried at engineered intervals on taller walls. We build all of it to spec, so the wall handles Oregon's saturated soils and hydrostatic pressure without leaning or bulging.

Excavation, Base & Drainage
Our crews excavate and compact an engineered gravel base, set a level leveling pad, and build in drainage — perforated drain pipe and clean gravel backfill — the parts that keep an Oregon wall standing for decades.
Build, Backfill & Finish
We set each course level and true, add geogrid reinforcement where needed, backfill and compact in lifts, cap the wall, and clean the site — then walk the finished project with you.
